The Exchange admin center (EAC) lets you enable the archive mailbox only individually – for one user at a time. For bulk actions, refer to the section on using Windows PowerShell.<\/div>\n

  1. Sign in to the Exchange admin center.<\/li>\n
  2. Go to\u00a0<\/span>Recipients > Mailboxes<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to display the list of mailboxes.<\/li>\n
  3. Click a user for whom you want to enable the archive mailbox. In the pane that opens, select the\u00a0<\/span>Others\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>tab and click\u00a0<\/span>Manage mailbox archive<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. In the\u00a0<\/span>Exchange (legacy) – Microsoft Purview<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>go to Information Governance > Retention.<\/li>\n
    2. Click the “+<\/em>” icon to create a new retention tag.<\/li>\n
    3. Give the tag a name, choose the type of retention and duration.<\/li>\n
    4. Click save.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Go to Information Governance > Policies.<\/li>\n
      2. Click “+” to create a new retention policy.<\/li>\n
      3. Give the policy a name and select the retention tags to apply.<\/li>\n
      4. Click save then refresh.<\/li>\n
      5. Select the policy and click “Apply to content locations”.<\/li>\n
      6. Choose the mailboxes or folders to apply the policy to.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Exchange Online runs the Managed Folder Assistant (MFA) weekly to process mailboxes per the retention policy schedule. To manually trigger MFA immediately, run this PowerShell command below as administrator.<\/p>\n
          This will start applying any retention policies right away instead of waiting for the normal cycle.<\/p>\n
